Orla Fitzgerald
Hello, my name is Orla Fitzgerald and I am the owner and founder of Tranquil. I have been practising Chinese medicine for over 20 years and teaching yoga for over 14. I am passionate about what I do and believe in the power of combining Western science with Eastern medicine and yogic wisdom to promote vibrant health, abundant energy and to cultivate a deep sense of peace and harmony in day-to-day life. I have a particular interest in women’s health.
I started my journey in Western science and studied Genetics in Trinity College Dublin with a particular interest in human genetics. After qualifying I travelled for a number of years, exploring and experiencing other cultures and learning new ways of doing and seeing things. I became interested in Eastern medicine, movement and philosophy but did not immediately undertake formal studies. Instead I returned to Ireland and I took the pragmatic step to convert to technology through a post-graduate program. I worked for many years the software development industry. During this time I cultivated a practise of yoga and meditation and consulted Eastern medicine to help me maintain good health and find a sense of calm in a very busy world.
The desire to learn more about Eastern medicine and philosophy grew, however, and I studied and qualified as an acupuncturist (2001) and Chinese medical herbalist (2007) with the Acupuncture Foundation of Ireland (AFI). The AFI is affiliated with the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I travelled to China and undertook post-graduate training at Nanjing University, including clinical experience at two of the city’s major hospitals. I went on to study yoga and became a registered yoga teacher in 2010.
I am a registered member of the Acupuncture Council of Ireland (ACI) and former Chair and member of the Irish Register of Chinese Medical Herbalism (IRCMH), both of which operate strict codes of ethics and practice. Acupuncture treatments are covered by all the major health insurers in Ireland.
